If you’re a new mom, or even if you’ve been around the pregnancy block a few times, you know that the days of feeling good about yourself can be few and far between. There’s always something more to do, more to worry about, more to clean up after. That’s why self-care is so important during pregnancy and after having a baby. It’s not just about feeling good but also looking good--and who doesn’t want that?!

We do believe in using a preservative with products that come in contact with water and here is the reason why. Mold growth is a real thing and if a product comes in contact with water such as a body scrub and it does not contain a preservative, visible (sometimes invisible) mold that is harmful to your health will start to form in the product. Our bodies don't like that and we don't want that to happen to your luxe product.

Phenoxyethanol and Caprylyl Glycol is the preservative we use in our Nourishing Body Scrubs and Sugar Shea Exfoliating Body Buff. It is a safe and approved preservative for skincare and cosmetics when used in small amounts of 1% or less. We use this ingredient at 1% and it is paraben and formaldehyde-free. It provides protection against microbial growth from bacteria and yeast.

HOW THE BUSINESS STARTED

Hi! I’m Kenyé, the CEO and founder of Skin Flo. I'm a mama of two who's experienced my fair share of hormonal changes the body and skin go through during and after pregnancy. The thought of starting my company Skin Flo came about when I was pregnant with my second child, dealing with an itchy growing belly—not to mention stretch marks forming along with dry patches of skin on different parts of my body—was enough to make me want to cry. And that's before I even get into the hyperpigmentation that made an appearance on parts of my body, or the frequent mood swings I had that amped up my anxiety.

I was what some would call "high-risk" during pregnancy, so I was extra cautious about what went in and on my body during this time. That meant whatever products I used had to be safe and needed to work. I realized after searching for that one product day after day nothing good was out there on the market. Products that claimed to be safe had a bunch of ingredients that were not deemed safe for Women who were expecting.

But then something amazing happened which I always say was a sign from God: I came across a local vendor of body care products that inspired me to research how to make body butter. After doing extensive research on ingredients and learning how to formulate a quality product, I crafted a product that solved my pregnancy skin issues.

I started Skin Flo because I wanted to help other moms get great products that were safe and effective for their pregnant bodies and beyond pregnancy.
